Hanuman Prasan Kai

Scientifically known as Schefflera leucantha (หนุมานประสานกาย in Thai), is commonly referred to as the Dwarf Umbrella Tree or Octopus Tree. This small tropical plant belongs to the Araliaceae family and thrives in the lush rainforests of Southeast Asia, particularly Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines.

With a shrub-like growth pattern, Hanuman Prasan Kai can reach a maximum height of 1.8 meters (6 feet). Its glossy dark green leaves are composed of 7 to 9 leaflets, each of which is oval in shape with a pointed tip. These leaflets can grow up to 3 inches (7.5 cm) long. During the spring and summer, the plant produces small clusters of white flowers at the tips of its branches. After flowering, small berries appear that gradually change from green to red as they ripen.
